About SAE-UK incorporating IVehE
SAE-UK is an Affiliate of SAE International and has recently merged with the Institute of Vehicle Engineers. It now has more than 2000 full and student members.
Aims are:
- To improve standards of design, use of materials, methods of manufacturing and safety, recognising environmental and legislative requirements.
- To encourage the development of automotive technology with the application of new ideas and manufacturing processes.
- To improve the status of personal members within the industry.
- To provide continuous updating of the developments in technology in the industry.
SAE-UK incorporating the Institute of Vehicle Engineers is the oldest society solely concerned with the automotive industry. Its roots go back to the early 1880's when prominent coachbuilders of the day sought to safeguard and maintain standards of design, materials and production. It is the only professional society dedicated solely to the vehicle and component manufacturing industries.
SAE-UK incorporating the Institute of Vehicle Engineers organises annually Design Award Competitions, Vehicle Engineering Technology Competitions, a Vehicle Technology Conference and Technical lectures which provide forums for the exchange of new ideas and processes at Centres throughout the country. (See events calendar.) SAE-UK magazines disseminate news of the industry and its advances.
From time to time an Essay Competition under the Maythorn Bequest is arranged.
SAE-UK incorporating the Institute of Vehicle Engineers, aims to expand its influence in design for safety and the use of new technologies and materials. It continues to represent members in the design, manufacturing and related sectors of the vehicle industry.
Policies and Strategies
SAE-UK Vision
Advancement of the mobility community to serve humanity. This includes:
- Capable practitioners world-wide in land, sea, air, space, government, industry and education, and a worldwide network of technically informed mobility practitioners.
- Improved processes and systems for mobility product life cycles. Specifically we want to meet the needs of mobility practitioners who serve in all five phases of the product life cycle. These phases include design, manufacturing, operations, maintenance and disposal/recycling.
- A culture which fosters innovation, creativity, timely response to change, social responsibility, and user satisfaction, with a focus on a better natural environment for the benefit of future generations.
SAE-UK Purposes
SAE-UK is a non-profit educational and scientific organisation dedicated to advancing mobility technology to better serve humanity. Engineers and scientists, who are SAE-UK members, develop technical information on all forms of self propelled vehicles including automobiles, trucks and buses, off-highway equipment, aircraft, aerospace vehicles, marine, rail, and transit systems. SAE-UK disseminates this information through its meetings, books, technical papers, magazines, standards, reports, professional development programmes, and electronic databases.
